Hike & Bike Trails Go 24/7 In Austin

Just had a long night out at bars and at Kerbey Lane and looking to run off some of the pounds from Kerbey Queso? Well you can do so now at many of our favorite parks as Lady Bird Lake Hike & Bike Trailer, Shoal Creek greenbelt trail, and Johnson Creek greenbelt trail are now all open 24/7 as with many of Austin’s fine dining establishments.

The police department’s park unit plans to run it as a 4-month pilot program to allow the city to keep fit even during the scorching hot months that are fast arriving. Four to six police offers will patrol the areas on horseback and on bike. The program starts on June 1 and will run through the end of September to cover all the hottest months in town and may come back in force if it remains popular.

Normal curfew for the parks is 10PM to 6AM.

The Austin City Council has approved the public use of designated trails and the greenbelt for 24-hours a day.

APD’s goal is to ensure public safety and to provide police visibility as members of our community utilize the trails as a safe option of transportation during lower visibility hours.
